Why is the world so messed up? A theory!
Often, I look around me and wonder, ‘Why is the world so fucked up?’ A month ago, I had no idea and believed in Karma and other such theories. A couple of weeks back, while flying down from Delhi to Pune, I had an epiphany (I hate that word – it’s used for just about anything by just about anyone, but best explains this situation). From 30,000 feet in the air, even Delhi looks beautiful. Let me elucidate that. Delhi. That ugly gargantuan mass of architecture influenced by phillistines and politicians; that hot, dry, dusty, disgusting blob of existence. Even that looks beautiful.
30,000 feet is not even close to heaven (if you go by what most of the major religions of the world tell you). It looks more beautiful from 30,000 feet than it does from 3000.
Now imagine how beautiful it must look to the God dude (or dudette) sitting up in heaven?
And if Delhi looks beautiful to God, is it any wonder that everything else on earth must look like para-fuckin-dise? And if it looks like paradise, why in his own name would God want to change anything? Which explains why he lets everything get so fucked up – hands-off management!
Now that I have a theory about the misery of existence, may I please be referred to as the enlightened one? You may worship me …
I call this theory Shaunak’s theory of altitude induced delusions.

dude… gods called a better microscope than the electron variants down here on (h)earth.
so go figure!

first epiphany is a beautiful word it DOES explain certain situations etc perfectly…ur plain biased abt it..
And Delhi is not as bad as u hv put it across..it has its own charm!–>
very interesting, but I don’t agree with you
Idetrorce
i do slightly agree but not that much great theory though
Wow you are definitely not going to heaven.
I think that is an alright theory, but I don’t totally agree with it. I am not coming on here to bash what you wrote, but maybe to get people to think? So to business.
If you really wanted to think about why the world is so messed up, why don’t we just take a look at the majority of the people living on it. People can’t keep blaming this “god” character for everything, thats pretty much what the role of god seems to have become now; a rug to walk over.
Example….”We are going to die of global warming, if there really is a God we wouldn’t be, he/she/it would take care of the problems.” This pisses me off alot, people just have to realize whether there is a god or not…humans have somewhat been the nominated being to run the Earth (and have a right fucking shitty job at it so far) so when things go wrong WE are the ones who have to pick up the pieces, not some magical disney fairyworld higher power. This is the real world, not some silly TV show.
When in actually documented history has there ever been some higher power reach Earth to fix all the shit that has gone wrong? I do not recall ever hearing about anything of that sort. So really, that is all the proof you need. Anything bad that has happened on this planet (other than natural causes) are usually of a human’s doing….so why would someone come and help us when we aren’t learning from our mistakes or really doing anything about it?
Im not saying im perfect either, I just think people have to stop waiting for someone to come along and do something when everyone has the power to make a difference on their own if they really tried.
This comment should have gotten more into how why PEOPLE are so screwed up and stupid.
For those that belive in a God here. Humans have something called free will. If looking at why we are so screwed up, there is no one to blame but us. Yes, people can have influences on one another, but ultimately, we are born with a simple knowledge of whats right and wrong which evolves as we grow older and its up to us to follow that “conscience” in making our decisions.
I don’t know, somehow this theory make me think human are fucked up, then the world is fucked up. You have some inocent and naive theory, of course things look beautiful when looking them so far, but if god is so powerfull and all of that, he can see far and close, and surely he know what kind of mess is happening here.
So try to think a little more!!; because the world is now because of us.
It makes me sad every time i think about millions of people suffering. And for what? Well somebody is getting sommething for all these sufferings otherwise there wouldnt be any. So power and money.
Earth is a paradise garden we were ment to live in, but instead we make it hell for so many.
Yes, “we”. We are either feeding the conflicts or suffering in them, there is just no other stand.
But as an individual there is almost nothing you can do. All you can hope for is that some day people understand what is truly important. ;(
You people need to smoke more weed then the normal peole do, then write your comments about what is asked?
nobody knows
basically ur all fuckin saddos who have no life
Hello,
You all have raised a very difficult question. First, I would suggest momentum. Today is correlated with yesterday, so tomorrow mostly arises from circumstances today. Second, the arrow if time only moves forward, for humans anyway. Everything is optimized as efficiently as possible, except for the occurrence natural disasters. Obviously, the objective functions of the more powerful supersede those of the less fortunate. However, people can influence the direction of the arrow time/creation. If an idea should capture everyone’s attention it could have a profound effect. For example, the emergence of a great mystical leader, perhaps even visitors from an outside civilization who offer the share some knowledge with us. Anything is possible with the direction of the arrow of time.
who knows.
it seems a bit silly, (according to catholism or christianity) that God thinks that suffering makes it all worthit when we get to heaven. (if there is one blah blah) and it’s all good for us. i would personally like a God with a face. that would be nice. just to know that we even exist. but YAH, so far in existance it hasn’t happened ay. (apart from jesus.. hey does anyone think that it was easier for the people at that time, cause jesus convinced (or brainwashed) them and they had the slightest proof.. but yeah religion isn’t based on proof. it’s based on faith.
but i think we need some input to solve our own problems (no matter how complex). i mean if i was God, i would hate people not to help me.
but yeah i guess it’s pretty much, all up to us. i mean, we can pray all we like, but unless we find a balance, humanity could destroy it’s self.
HA! sorry varried from your theory a bit but yeah, probably worth thinking about.
Your analogy made PERFECT sense to me. The altitude you speak of refers to our level of understanding the grand plan. From our limited vantage point it seems like the world is filled with suffering but as we expand our consciousness and look at it from a higher perspective maybe this suffering is necessary to move the world forward to become a better place. Maybe this suffering’s always existed but it’s only now that we can bring it into consciousness with the advent of the internet and global communication. Speaking of karma maybe it’s exactly as I read in the aquarian gospel version of jesus christ’s story. In that story a lawyer of some sort blames Jesus for a storm that kills people in a boat since Jesus had the power to stop the storms but chose not to. Jesus then responds by saying that their deaths were in their karma because of actions they have done in the past. Jesus points out that we only see this as a tragic event because we don’t see the big picture like he can. Thus it can be said that our misunderstanding of this truth regarding the world causes us to suffer. Similar to Buddha’s claim that all suffering is caused by ignorance. Our ignorance to the real reasons why people suffer may in turn make us suffer needlessly.
